The Hooked Tuber of the Kalahari Sands

Sprawling across the deep red sands of the Kalahari desert in Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa, Devil\'s Claw (Harpagophytum procumbens) takes its name from the sharp, barbed woody hooks of its seed pods. The true medicinal power, however, resides deep underground in its massive secondary storage tubers (Tuber Harpagophyti).


1. Iridoid Glycoside Harpagosides

Standardized Devil\'s Claw extract is concentrated for Harpagoside and Harpagide iridoid glycosides:


  • Matrix Metalloproteinase ($MMP$) Suppression: Inhibits the catabolic enzyme MMP-13, which degrades Type II collagen within articular joint cartilage.
